YWCA-MC Covid-19 Message from CEO

YWCA-MC Covid-19 Message

Dear Friends, we have a YWCA-MC Covid-19 Message:

It has become apparent that we must take additional steps in our efforts to protect the health and safety of our staff and clients while continuing to provide much needed services at a time when clients may be faced with continuing to live or be in close proximity to their abusers.

In light of Centers for Disease Control, California State and Monterey County Health Department directions, from Monday March 16th we will be limiting services at our offices at 236 Monterey Street to ensure we comply with social distancing. The changes outlined will remain in effect until we notify you that they have been suspended and we will return to operating normally.

Human Trafficking
Case management continues through regular phone contact. Our HT Coordinator can be reached on 831-710-3375.

Domestic Violence Safehouse
Our Shelter will continue to operate as usual and we have in place extra staff and extra measures to ensure a high level of safety for all our clients. To access the Shelter services, please call the crisis line to start the intake process. 831-757-1001 or 831-372-6300

Mental Health Services
We continue to work with clients face to face where possible and for others by phone and will offer Skype appointments where appropriate. For those referred by the District Attorney’s office for CPO (Criminal Protective Order) classes, we continue to meet with them. As we are unable to provide child care, we have had to put on hold our weekly therapy groups. If you want to access our therapists call to complete an intake on 831-422-8602.

24-hour Crisis Lines
The 24 Hour Helpline will continue to operate throughout the crisis. Staff will offer telephone support and make appropriate referrals to other YWCA programs and our wider supportive circle of providers. Anyone in crisis can speak to a trained staff member on 831-757-1001 or 831-372-6300

Housing First program
Staff will continue to support clients who need assistance with rent, security deposits, utilities and childcare payments to ensure access to safe and affordable housing. All necessary work will be done by telephone and email. Call 831-422-8602 to access support.

Outreach and Prevention programs have been put on hold but our staff are working to update materials and programs in order to offer even better support after the crisis.

Legal Advocacy
At present we cannot offer support for divorce or child custody cases but we do continue to support clients who are looking to obtain a protective order such as DV Restraining Order or Civil Restraining order. Please call 831-422-8602 to arrange intakes.

This information is accurate as of 3/17/2020 and we may need to change our YWCA-MC Covid-19 message following further developments in which case we will inform you immediately.

We hope you all remain safe and well and thank you for your continued support of the YWCA Monterey County. Be assured that the Board and staff are prepared to be as responsive as we can while conforming to all agreed and accepted health and safety measures.
