Commitment to Anti-Racism
YWCA MC has a commitment to anti-racism. We are committed to engaging in ongoing anti-racism and racial equity work to eliminate racism.
In an attempt to begin discussions around racial justice as a staff, we have started a series of group dialogues to allow us to strengthen our individual and collective abilities toward becoming anti-racist. We continue our commitment to anti-racism in our work, and in our homes. One recent dialogue was focused on a discussion of Ava DuVernay's award-winning documentary 13th, which explores the history of racial injustice and mass incarceration in the United States. To follow up with this discussion, each staff member pledged to take action against systemic racism in their personal and/or professional lives. Some of the actions pledged by staff were:
"To start conversations with my daughter about equality"
"Finish reading The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander"
"Confront anti-blackness and colorism within my community"
"Talk to my family and friends about racism and discrimination"
