YWCA-MC’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women takes shape during the month of April. Stand Against Racism is a time to reflect on attitudes towards other races and the preconceptions that affect people of color within our society. We have organized events to bring recognition to racism affecting all ethnicities. Change starts from within, with awareness and education.

With Community partners, we will be screening a presentation on Racial Justice
Youth Education & Advocacy group will be engaging in an Equity and Racial Justice activity art project to support this campaign displayed in schools and offices around the county.

Ketanji Brown Jackson Made History in our Justice System
Women’s History Month 2022 was an amazing month for women. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is the first Black woman nominated in March and confirmed to the Supreme Court in April. We are so excited to have more balance in the Supreme Court.
Highlighting the Coalition for Justice for Migrant Women
The Coalition for Justice for Migrant Women was instrumental in leading the way for more inclusive calculations of the gender wage gap. Currently, part-time workers are excluded from calculations, leaving behind many seasonal and migrant farm workers as well as women caring for their children only able to work part-time. The Coalition met with President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden at the White House. As the coalition points out, 33 million women are left out of analytics due to part-time or seasonal work or were unemployed for a year or more. They are advocating for expansive data and policies like paid leave and the Paycheck Fairness Act to close the wage gap.
