Join the Movement
At the YWCA Monterey County we work to ensure a safe, healthy, and dignified community. In addition, we aim to empower women to live to their fullest potential.
YWCA-MC is driven by values and committed to diversity, equity, and justice. As we strive to prevent and address all forms of inequality, we seek justice for those most impacted by oppression.
Our mission has evolved throughout the years to further address inequality. In 2009 The YWCA USA adopted racial justice in our mission. We believe there is no racial justice without gender justice and conversely no gender justice without racial justice. Empowering women requires eliminating racism and discrimination in all forms.
Eliminating Racism
We implemented concrete ways to address racism. First recognizing disparities for people of color in the areas of housing, education, jobs, healthcare, criminal justice, and asset growth. Next, we take a public stance against race-based hate crimes and violations of Civil Liberties. Through ongoing programs, conferences, events, and initiatives, YWCA leaders engage communities to recognize the broad-based consequences of racism. By providing culturally-competent gender and racial justice training in Spanish and English, we educate.
This movement requires courage and work. By working together, we can influence policies and legislation that ensure progress for all people impacted by violence, poverty, racism, and sexism.
As a non-profit, the YWCA organization is not political. While we are committed to our advocacy initiatives, we remain neutral politically.
